Accident Guide

What to do if you're in an accident

Save this page on your phone. Keep it with your bike papers.

  1. Step 01

    Check yourself

How badly are you hurt? Call 911 and wait for medical help. We know you're tough, but leaving the scene can make claiming medical costs harder.

  2. Step 02

Help others, but don't admit fault

Help others at the scene, but don't admit to any wrongdoing.

  3. Step 03

    Don't move your bike

Keep the scene as it is so police can photograph it. Take as many photos as you can from different angles, plus selfies showing your injuries.

  4. Step 04

    Tell the medics everything

Describe every pain and injury to the EMTs, at the ER and to your doctors. It's always to your benefit.

  5. Step 05

    Collect witness details

Photograph licenses if they allow it. Otherwise write down names, phone numbers and addresses.

  6. Step 06

    Collect the other driver's details

Photograph their license and insurance, or write down name, license number and insurance company.

  7. Step 07

Give a full statement to police while it's fresh

Start at the beginning, speak slowly and calmly, and describe events in the order they happened.
